THEATRE COME BACK : Theatres eagerly await PMs announcement

The show WILL go on, it’s just a matter of when.

Theatres and Venues across the country are calling for clarity on wether they should begin planning for summer and autumn events, welcoming audiences back for the first time in months. On Monday, the prime minister is expected to outline his roadmap for leaving lockdown, potentially bringing the events industries some hope of catching that essential summer trade.

The combination of the vaccine programme and rapid coronavirus testing could be integral to ensuring theatres and venues can open safely, bringing live entertainment back to our towns and cities. Vaccine minister Nadhim Zahawi and Prime Minister Boris Johnson have said these measures could be the key to getting our economy back on its feet. But many hospitality and entertainment bosses have hit back on these claims, saying it would simply not be viable due to the expense.

Some venues have been unable to open since March 2020, and those that could have been faced with challenges such as social distancing and reduced capacity.  Now, we are all waiting in anticipation to hear the prime minister's plan for leaving lockdown, with an announcement due on Monday, something the team at the Tyne theatre and opera house are certainly looking forward to.
