FUNDRAISING HERO: A local man is taking on a mammoth running challenge to raise money for his local NHS trust

When we first went into lockdown, people across the country stepped up and took it upon themselves to raise vital funds for the NHS in any way they could.

And that initial spirit of the first lockdown hasn't gone away with many of you still running, walking, dancing and baking all to raise money to help the doctors, nurses, carers and volunteers provide the best level of care they can for patients.

One of those is Ben Lamb. Ben didn't fancy himself as much of a runner, but having been inspired by the late sir captain Tom Moore, and by the hard work and devotion of our care staff, will be running 2000 mile this year for North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust.

The NHS has been experiencing underfunding when compared to previous decades. Between 2009-2019,  NHS budgets rose on average just 1.4% per year, compared to 3.7% average rises since the NHS was established. And the pandemic has added to that strain. But, efforts by people like Ben do make a difference.
