HUGE WIN: Boro cruise past 10-man Preston North End
Middlesbrough kept their play-off hopes alive as they cruised past Preston North End at the Riverside Stadium.
A torrid first half for the visitors saw defender Jordan Storey slice Yannick Bolasie's cross into his own net.
Less than 15 minutes later, Preston captain Alan Browne was sent off following an off-the-ball incident involving him and Sam Morsy.
The referee had his cards out again as the players left the pitch at half time as North End manager Alex Neil’s verbal exchange with the officials resulted in a second red card.
The game was settled early in the second half when Marcus Taverneir doubled Boro’s lead and secured a vital three points.
There’s no denying that Neil Warnock was the happier of the two managers at full time.
Warnock told BBC Radio Tees post-match that the win was always more important than the performance:
"I said to my players before the game, it's not how we play tonight, it's [about] coming away with three points.
"Once they went down to ten men it's difficult to create. It's a difficult thing to win against ten men in football.
"You won't believe me, but I haven't seen it yet. And to be honest I'm not that bothered. The referee was in a good position, you've got to take it that he saw enough to give him a red card."
