NEWS ROUNDUP: Covid hospital admissions down & tackling food poverty in Darlington
The pressure on hospitals in the North East is easing.
Data from the NHS shows that admissions for coronavirus have fallen by 75% since the end of January. The next challenge for the service will now be to address the backlog of other work that has built up over the course of the pandemic.
Food insecurity in Darlington
Darlington Council is facing calls to establish a body to monitor and tackle food insecurity over the long term. The conservative run authority is also being pressed to call on the Government to conduct an urgent review of the threshold for Free School Meals to ensure no disadvantaged child is excluded.
28% fewer men have had prostate cancer referrals in the North East and North Yorkshire. Prostate Cancer UK has warned that this number is set to grow if the drop in referrals is not reversed. The charity has shared a 30 second risk checker to help men understand the risk factors associated with the disease.
