PUMP IT UP: How have gyms in the North East welcomed fitness fanatics back safely?

Pump it up! Gyms have re-opened their doors for all you fitness fanatics across the North East. Let’s find out what restrictions are in place to keep you safe.

As part of lockdown easing, gyms have been allowed to open up again, much to the delight of gym goers across the region. For those without sufficient space and equipment at home, staying in shape has been a challenge, especially over the winter months when it's just so much more tempting to stay in with a pizza and a good film than head out pounding the pavement in sub zero temperatures. And it's not just members who are happy about this next phase of lockdown easing.

A few of the things to remember if you're heading back to your gym are to only go alone or with others in your household, as indoor mixing is still not allowed. Always stick to social distancing, and most facilities will have a reduced capacity to make this easier. There will be regular cleaning taking place throughout. Check ahead if the changing rooms for your gym are in operation, as this will depend on the size of a particular site and if extra cleaning and care can be facilitated.

Throughout the pandemic we've come to learn that those who are overweight or obese tend to suffer more when contracting coronavirus. I asked Matthew if he thinks this will renew a sense of motivation for people to put their health and fitness at the forefront of their lifestyle.
