TO THE FINALS: North East & Yorkshire Disability FC are off to the FA Disability Cup Finals!

The FA Disability Cup Finals are this weekend, as the North East take on the North West!
As social media continues to gain more prominence in society, the abuse that footballers, managers and referees have to endure has really been laid bare, especially over this past year.
And after a phenomenal tournament, this sort of negativity will sadly be a lasting memory from the Euros. But it's important not to lose sight of some of the amazing things football can do for someone, and the ways it can change people's lives for the better.
This weekend it's the FA Disability Cup Finals, which is being televised for the first time ever on BT, and it's a showdown between the North East and the North West. We spoke to manager Simon in the run up to the match.
Like many managers, Simon started out as a player and turned to coaching when it was his time to retire. Seeing the transformation of some the players, he says is one of the most fulfilling aspects of the jobs.
We've quite clearly seen how much football means to so many people across the country, and being able to continue with disability leagues helps the sport be accessible to everyone.

Simon Keaney from York will next week lead North East and Yorkshire Disability FC at the FA Disability Cup Finals at St George’s Park on July 17/18. The ex-player and now manager will face the Yorkshire club’s biggest rivals CP North West in the Cerebral Palsy Final.

The finals are the pinnacle of competitive Disability Football in England and for the first time the finals will be screened live on TV, showcasing disability football to a national audience after a season impacted by Covid 19.

The York based team from will take on neighbouring rivals CP North West at the home of the England squad in the Cerebral Palsy final, just a week after the European Championships Final at Wembley. The two sides have dominated CP football in recent years
