A new provider has been found to run a Redcar doctor’s surgery after the previous sole GP gave notice they were to quit due to personal circumstances.
A merger involving the Ravenscar Surgery, which is based on the first floor of the Redcar Primary Care Hospital, in West Dyke Road, coming together with a neighbouring practice was initially considered by health chiefs, but deemed not to be an option.
Instead, the Tees Valley Clinical Commissioning Group, which commissions local health services, has secured an alternative provider – Elm Alliance Limited – on an emergency 12 month contract following a procurement exercise.
Patients at the surgery have been written to to advise them of the new provider, and assured that services will continue.
A report for Redcar and Cleveland Council’s adults and communities scrutiny and improvement committee said it was the intention to seek longer-term GP services from October next year.
