NEWS ROUNDUP: Coronavirus update & opposition to outdoor seating plans

Coronavirus cases are on the rise across the region and a hospitality manager is defending plans to enhance outdoor seating capacity outside Quay Taphouse in North Tyneside.

Coronavirus cases are on the rise right across the North East. This is thought to be partially brought on by surge testing. The jump in infections has yet to be met with increased hospitalisations and deaths.

Lynemouth Beach

Asbestos, cables, pipes and plastic have become a familiar sight at a Northumberland beach. But now, a multi million pound clean up operation has been approved to remove the toxic waste, left from years of coal mining and heavy industry. Erosion has meant the previously buried waste on Lynemouth beach is now exposed and could impact the sea.

Outdoor seating plans

A hospitality businessman in North Tyneside has defended plans to turn part of a car park into an outdoor seating area. Paul Sample wants to see the changes outside Quay Taphouse, River Cafe and Dodgins Yard. The plans have faced opposition from residents citing concerns around noise levels and the area becoming saturated with drinking venues.
