DARLINGTON JOBS: Tees Valley Mayor calls on local people to apply for new Government jobs

DARLINGTON JOBS: Tees Valley Mayor calls on local people to apply for new Government jobs

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen has called on local people looking for jobs to apply for one of dozens of new Darlington Government jobs currently being advertised for Darlington’s Economic Campus.

A total of 80 civil service jobs are currently being advertised on TeesValley.Jobs, giving local people the opportunity to forge rewarding careers at the heart of government without having to move to cities such as Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester or London.

More than 1,500 civil service jobs will be relocated from Whitehall to the government’s new Darlington Economic Campus, with jobs available with the most powerful government departments and agencies – including the Treasury, Department for International Trade, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Office of National Statistics and Competition and Markets Authority – which will sit alongside the Department for Education already based there.

A range of roles are on offer in everything from Policy, Strategy, HR and Business Analysis to Software Development, Communications and Planning and Logistics. These cover all levels of experience, from heads of department and senior staff to apprentices and trainees.

You could earn up to £44,000 as a Senior Policy Advisor for the Department of International Trade’s World Trade Organisation’s operations team, or take on placements as an International Trade Trainee on up to £35,500. You could join the Department for Education as a Data Science Degree Apprentice for a salary of £25,000 or a Senior Product Manager delivering DIT’s digital services, data and technology central to its objectives, taking home up to £56,400. Further civil service jobs will also be advertised on the site as they are made available.

Mayor Houchen said: “When we secured the relocation of senior Treasury jobs to Darlington I said it would just be the start of a tsunami of civil service jobs coming to the region. Soon the Darlington Economic Campus will be home to over 1,500 civil servants – with a huge number being recruited locally, meaning local people who call Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool home can have a rewarding career in the civil service without having to leave the place they love.

“Whether you’ve been working for decades or are just starting out, there’s a whole host of positions available and, on top of securing a good-quality, well-paid job, you’ll be helping to champion our region and put our priorities front-and-centre in Government decision- and policy-making. For those just leaving school or higher education too, it shows you can stay local but go far into a rewarding civil service career as more jobs become available down the line.

“Even if a civil service role isn’t for you, I’d call on everyone who’s job-hunting or looking for a new challenge to check out TeesValley.Jobs. With a huge range of sectors, workplaces and environments being advertised – and more and more being added daily – there are roles to suit everyone. It really is the best place to help you discover what’s on offer across Teesside, Hartlepool and Darlington.”

TeesValley.Jobs was launched by Mayor Houchen in March 2021 as a one-stop jobs site to discover new opportunities in the region which hosts hundreds of adverts across all sectors for some of our biggest firms. Since going live, 62,625 people have visited the site.
