NEWS ROUNDUP: Revival of old railway line & landmarks lit for day of reflection
Latest vaccine update, the revival of an old railway to boost the economy and Sunderland landmarks light up yellow to mark the national day of reflection.
Over 700,000 people across the North East have received at least their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
Though happy with the rollout so far, health bosses in the region have said they could have delivered more jabs if the supply had been available.
Newcastle to Northumberland
The government has been urged to back a £140 million regeneration of North East communities. Passenger services are due to return to the disused Newcastle Northumberland railway line by December 2023, and council leaders are hoping to capitalise on the boost with an influx of new homes and jobs along a new ‘economic corridor’ created by the renewed train line.
Landmarks lit up
Landmarks across Sunderland were lit up in yellow to remember all those who have died during the pandemic. The Day of Reflection was organised to give the nation and communities a moment to remember, grieve and celebrate the lives of everyone we've lost over the year.
