NEWS ROUNDUP: Local support for HS2 & solar farm planned for Hartlepool

Local leaders and business groups have outlined their support for HS2 and a new solar farm in Hartlepool has been given the green light.

A report outlining the importance of HS2 has received support from local politicians and business groups.

The report calls on the government to ensure it's finished in full, saying it's essential for local economic growth.

Arguments against the development include the £100 billion price tag, disruption to the countryside and the impact on people's homes.

Hartlepool solar farm
Plans for a huge solar farm on the outskirts of Hartlepool have been given the green light.
The development on a site off Worset Lane would power around 14,500 homes annually, contributing  towards tackling the climate crisis.
Back to school in Northumberland

Pupils in Northumberland won't be sent home if they don't complete the recommended two coronavirus tests before the start of term.
Two lateral flow tests are being advised before returning to school, but children won't be denied their education if they don't take them.

“The national guidance is that all pupils are offered two assisted lateral flow tests before returning to school,” said David Street, deputy director of Education at Northumberland County Council.

“The taking of the test is voluntary but if, for some reason, people didn’t take the test, when their year group returned to school they would be eligible to return.

“It’s not a problem, everybody takes the tests, but, if somebody didn’t, there will never be a position where someone is not allowed to attend school because they’ve not taken the two precautionary tests.”
