POLICE PRAISE HEROES: Passersby save girls who had fallen in the sea
Redcar neighbourhoods officers have said a huge thank you to four men who helped two girls, 10 and 11, who’d fallen into the sea on Saturday 13th March.
Police were called to Redcar beach, near the caravan site just after 4pm. One of the girls had fallen into the water from a ramp and the other tried to help her but also slipped into the sea. The four members of the public risked their own lives to rescue the girls, and PC Stewart Shepherd, a neighbourhood officer who attended the scene, said he was very grateful for the men’s help, saying their brave and prompt action meant nobody was seriously hurt:
“There’s no doubt their quick thinking meant a far less serious outcome and I would describe these men as heroes. I want to thank them for all they did yesterday.”
The girls suffered bruising and were very cold from being in the water but they were checked over by ambulance service colleagues before being left in the care of their parents.
