PRINCE PHILIP REMEMBERED: Prince Harry and Prince William break their silence over the Duke’s death

Following the sad news on Friday about the passing of Prince Philip, the Duke of Cambridge, tributes have continued to pour in.

MPs and politicians across the House of Commons and in the Welsh Assembly have been recalled early from the Easter recess to pay their respects to the late Duke - as his family continue to react too.

Prince Andrew was joined by the Prince Edward the Earl of Wessex and the Countess of Wessex at a separate service at Windsor's Royal Lodge. The said the Royal Family was grateful for all the "absolutely amazing tributes" to Prince Philip.

A ceremonial royal funeral will be held for the duke at St George's Chapel, in the grounds of Windsor Castle, on Saturday afternoon, with the event being televised right around the world.

Meanwhile Prince William the Duke of Cambridge has released a statement - in it, he and he explains

“I feel lucky to have not just had his example to guide me, but his enduring presence well into my own adult life – both through good times and the hardest days. I will always be grateful that my wife had so many years to get to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her. I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humour!

My grandfather was an extraordinary man and part of an extraordinary generation. Catherine and I will continue to do what he would have wanted and will support The Queen in the years ahead. I will miss my Grandpa, but I know he would want us to get on with the job.”

A statement from Prince Harry and his family followed - “to me”, it read “like many of you who have lost a loved one or grandparent over the pain of this past year, he was my grandpa: master of the barbecue, legend of banter, and cheeky right ‘til the end.”

Ahead of Saturday, politicians have been recalled to pay their respects - members of the Welsh Parliament paid their respects with a minute’s silence in the Senned, followed by this message from First Minister Mark Drakeford.

Meanwhile, MPs in the House of Commons also observed a moment of silence, followed by some of their fond memories of the Duke of Edinburgh.
