REDCAR AND CLEVELAND: Tories triumph in local council by-elections

REDCAR AND CLEVELAND: Tories triumph in local council by-elections

The Conservatives have won the three vacant seats on Redcar and Cleveland Council after voters went to the polls yesterday.

Andrea Turner, the wife of Cleveland PCC candidate Steve, took Longbeck and in Guisborough fellow Conservative Andrew Hixon  also won.

The Hutton ward seat was taken by Conservative Stephen Waterfield.

The outcome will not substantially affect the make-up of the council, which is ruled by an independent/Liberal Democrat coalition.

But it will be a boost for the South Tees Conservative Association after several long-standing Conservative members on the council resigned from the Conservative Party to form a new group the Cleveland independent group.
