ROAD RESURFACING: Urgent repairs in Middlesbrough
Urgent road resurfacing is to be undertaken at a key Middlesbrough junction.
The resurfacing works on the A172 Stokesley Road/Dixons Bank near Marton Shops will start on Tuesday (April 6) and are expected to take up to six days to complete. The carriageway is in need of urgent maintenance following a serious deterioration, with a deeper repair required to ensure longevity.
The works will be split into two phases, with each phase further divided into two parts for the northbound and southbound lanes. The side roads of Gypsy Lane and Gunnergate Lane will be temporarily closed for the first phase, with a section of Laurel Road also closed for the second.
Existing traffic signals will be switched off and temporary two-way traffic lights will be in use during the works, which will be carried out overnight between 8pm and 6am. Local diversions for the side road closures and the shops will be fully signed on site, with additional signing along Gunnergate Lane from Coulby Newham to encourage motorists to use Stainton Way as a diversion route.
The two affected bus stops will be closed during the works, with temporary stops erected nearby. A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: "Repairs to key sections of highway are a necessity from time to time, but we always endeavour to carry them out outside peak times.
"We thank motorists for their patience and understanding, and apologise for any inconvenience caused."
