VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN: Will the governments planned 888 helpline make the streets safer?

Downing Street has given the green light for an 888 ‘walk me home’ emergency service to
protect lone women in the take of Sarah Everard’s murder.

The app and reporting system, proposed by BT and backed by the Home Secretary, would require users to call or text to
enter journey details that would be monitored by smartphone GPS. Failure to respond to automated checks would trigger alerts to emergency contacts or the police. The service could be up and running by Christmas, but critics say tracking women’s movements is not a solution for male violence and will do nothing to make women safer. It comes as police forces have been criticised over their vetting practice.

Do you think the 888 service is a good idea? Would you use it?

What do you think should be done to make sure women are safe
