CANCER CRISIS: MPs urge the government to act on the covid imposed cancer backlog
As we look forward to life no longer dominated by coronavirus, the Catch Up With Cancer campaign along with seventy five parliamentarians want to see the cancer backlog tackled with the same force and energy as the covid response.
Significant investment across diagnostics and treatments is now needed to prevent another health disaster.
Easington MP Grahame Morris has signed a cross-party letter calling on the Government to provide a funding "super-boost" to cancer services at the Spring Budget. Concerns have been raised that the existing Cancer Recovery Plan is out of date and the Cancer Recovery Taskforce does not have the power to secure the required investment in additional treatment and diagnostic capacity needed to tackle the backlog properly.
Mr Morris said there has never been a more important time to give the NHS the investment required to create a truly world-class cancer service to improve patient outcomes. We spoke to him to find out more about the situation.
