BRING IT ON: Wetherspoons set to re-open 860 venues across UK as lockdown eases on 17th May

BRING IT ON: Wetherspoons set to re-open 860 venues across UK as lockdown eases on 17th May

Indoor pubs and restaurants re-open from May 17th

Wetherspoons will re-open 860 pubs with their full menu from Monday 17th May along with its curry and steak nights.

Under the governments third phase of the roadmap the pub chain will be open from 8am to midnight Sunday-Thursday and 8am - 1am Friday and Saturdays.

Groups of 6 will be allowed to eat indoors from Monday, and restrictions are set to be completely eased by 21st June.

Four-hundred-and-thirty-eight Wetherspoons pubs in England are already open but they are offering a reduced menu due to limited seating capacity - meaning Spoons customers have not been able to order its famous curries, mixed grills and steaks for months.

32 branches are currently open in Wales for outdoor dining with the additional 18 re-opening from the 17th.

UKHospitality Chief Executive Kate Nicholls said: “This is a much welcome and vitally important next step, as we continue along the roadmap to remove restrictions.

"There is a huge sense of relief within the sector, in particular for the 6 in 10 venues that were not able to reopen over recent weeks due to a lack of outdoor space.

"This also gives businesses far more certainty with trading no longer beholden to the weather. However, with significant restrictions still in place, this is a psychological opening rather than an economic one, with the profitability of the sector still a huge issue.

"This is why sticking to the roadmap and the removal of all restrictions by 21st June is absolutely crucial, enabling venues to finally operate in viable conditions, after fourteen months of severely disrupted trading.

"Hospitality, as it emerges from restrictions, is still in a fragile state and continued Government support will be critical to ensuring the sector is rejuvenated and plays a full role in the wider economic recovery.”
